Win or lose in the national final March 29, in San Francisco, the Student Construction Association team already had achieved a first for UW-Stout: It placed in the final four of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America proposal contest.
Also advancing to the final round with their plans for renovating an actual hospital cafeteria were teams from University of Washington, Colorado State and Oregon State.
Among the 22 schools that didn’t advance were Iowa State, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Penn State, Purdue and Nebraska. “We were competing against some pretty special programs – the best of the best,” said Tim Becker, an assistant professor in the construction department and the team’s faculty adviser.
